More than 844.000 vinyl records have been purchased this year, beating the previous 829.243 units from 2013, and its expected to surpass one million by the end of 2014. This numbers advanced by the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA), are the highest since 1997.
So far, Arctic Monkeys with their last record “AM” are the biggest sellers of the year. Jack White‘s “Lazaretto”, the remastered version of Oasis‘ debut “Definitely Maybe”, Royal Blood’s debut album and the Led Zeppelin reissues are all seeing huge sales as well.
ERA Director Kim Bayley explained that: “This is an extraordinary turnaround. Independent retailers were first to identify the untapped potential for vinyl and made it the focus of Record Store Day.” And adds: “With record labels now making more vinyl available, this trend shows no sign of abating.”
